Don't Name It!

While waiting in line to purchase two small plants:

Secundus: "I'm going to think of a name for mine!"

Me: "Don't name it!  Don't get attached to it.  We're going to let one of them die."

I wonder why the lady in the next line over was giving us weird looks?
