Homeschooling Means...#27

...that you understand this little inside joke homeschoolers have:  If there are some chores that just absolutely need to be done, homeschoolers sometimes decide to skip the regular school work (for a couple hours or the whole day) and use that time to get the chores done.  Then we declare it a "life skills" activity and record it as school for the day.  Having children help prepare a meal for the family also gets counted as "life skills."

(Of course, depending on your philosophy, this may be less of a joke and more of a legitimate and purposeful way your homeschool functions.  That's fine, too.)

We don't do this very often.  I'd rather stare at the mess all day, getting more and more distracted, anxious, and stressed out as the hours go by and then explode once we hit 3 o'clock and frantically demand that everyone help out before mommy goes crazy!  :)

(This series is meant to be mostly lighthearted and fun.  Some may be serious, but most will be silly, braggy, or of the keepin'-it-real variety.  Not every homeschool is the same.  And some of these things could be said by public school parents.  This is just to highlight MY experience with MY homeschool and MY children.  Enjoy these little insights into our life and feel free to share your own "Homeschooling means..." in the comments!)
